On 14 April 2025, Normec OWS proudly hosted the POLYMEER consortium for its General Assembly at the Ghent facility. This marked a key milestone in the EU-funded project’s progress toward developing next-generation polymer materials with improved recyclability and sustainability.

The day’s programme featured expert sessions on intellectual property (IP) management — essential for protecting innovations and facilitating technology transfer across international research partnerships. With polymer technologies rapidly evolving, strong IP strategies help ensure that breakthroughs can be scaled and commercialised responsibly.

Participants also toured Normec OWS’s state-of-the-art laboratories, gaining insight into advanced testing capabilities. As an independent analytical centre, Normec OWS contributes deep expertise in materials characterisation, biodegradability assessment, and regulatory compliance — critical elements for evaluating new polymer formulations under real-world conditions.

The General Assembly strengthened collaboration among the consortium partners and highlighted Normec OWS’s ongoing role in supporting the project. By combining applied research with rigorous testing, the POLYMEER team is advancing solutions that could help reduce plastic waste and support Europe’s transition to a more circular materials economy.
